CHEER Explains: Wellbeing
We’ve been posting a number of videos on our YouTube channel around various HR/Engagement terms, to help introduce you to them.
Now I’ll be uploading them to this very website.
This time it’s Wellbeing (a pillar of EVP)
🧘♀️ Definition: Supporting physical, mental and emotional health of employees.
According to a Gallup study, employees with high wellbeing are 27% more likely to report higher levels of performance at work. This is backed up by the World Health Organisation, who suggest for every £1 invested in mental health, there is a return of £4 in improved productivity
🧘♀️ Example Topics:
– Mental Health Support / First Aiders
– Financial Wellbeing support
– Flexible Working Options
– Parental Leave
– Fitness Subsidies
– Free Fruit*
* Free Fruit – might not be the most important for all, but whether it’s a perk or benefit it still can contribute to an EVP. Cue online backlash!
🧘♀️ Who does this well? MIND (charity): As a mental health charity, Mind not only provides services to others but, as you’d hope, also has an exceptional internal wellbeing culture. They provide mental health awareness training for all staff and ensure a supportive work environment where employees’ mental health is prioritised. Their commitment to wellbeing extends to flexible working arrangements and regular wellbeing checks for staff.
